Top Ten Ice Hockey States and Provinces

We all know that Wayne Gretzky is the greatest player to ever have picked up a hockey stick. No one will ever beat his points total.

But how do the North American states and provinces rank in regards to points? Glad you asked. Here are the top ten and their best producing players:

10) New York

122 players, 29 368 games played, 11 479 points.

Top three players: Joe Mullen, Patrick Kane, Mathieu Schneider.

Three NHL teams, and this is all you can provide? Come on, New York.

9) Michigan

167 players, 43 710 games played, 16 994 points.

Top three players: Mike Modano, Doug Weight, Brian Rolston.

All surrounded by lakes, no surprise they can skate.

8) Massachussetts

196 players, 46 292 games played, 19 603 points.

Top three players: Jeremy Roenick, Keith Tkachuk, Tony Amonte.

They’re massaprodussetts NHL players. No? Sorry, we’ll stop writing.

7) Minnesota

257 players, 60 765 games played, 24 749 points.

Top three players: Phil Housley, Neal Broten, Dave Christian.

Congratulations, Minnesota! You are the best hockey state in the U.S. Sure, Canada beat the hell out of you. But way to go.

6) Manitoba

395 players, 88 977 games played, 34 451 points.

Top three players: Bobby Clarke, Andy Bathgate, Butch Goring.

Fun fact: Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp and Duncan Keith are all from Manitoba. So in conclusion, the entire province is declining.

5) British Columbia

379 players, 95 528 games played, 39 763 points.

Top three players: Steve Yzerman, Joe Sakic, Mark Recchi.

Two GM’s as their top two players of all time. They’ve got some brains in B.C.

4) Saskatchewan

504 players, 134 093 games played, 55 443 points.

Top three players: Gordie Howe, Bryan Trottier, Bernie Federko.

How do they not have an NHL team in Saske… Sazch… Saskach… Screw it! That place? Their two biggest cities are Saskatoon and Regina, for crying out loud.

There’s so much room for activities with those names.

3) Alberta

586 players, 155 271 games played, 61 164 points.

Top three players: Mark Messier, Johnny Bucyk, Jarome Iginla.

How cool is it that Messier got to raise five Stanley Cups for his hometown, Edmonton? If only he could’ve shared some with Iginla.

2) Quebec

816 players, 229 332 games played, 107 614 points.

Top three players: Marcel Dionne, Mario Lemieux, Ray Bourque.

Wait, these players are all from France? Ooooooh! We get it now, never mind.

1) Ontario

2 282 players, 619 417 games played, 281 091 points.

Top three players: Wayne Gretzky, Ron Francis, Phil Esposito.

No surprise there, eh? Like that wasn’t enough, the McDavid kid is from Ontario as welll…
